After graduating high school I took the opportunity to get involved at MIST, first coordinating the debate competition and then moving up to become one of the competitions managers.
Joining MIST back in Grade 11 changed my whole outlook on my new life and has helped me grow in so many ways. The people I’ve met, the memories I’ve made, and the way I’ve evolved.
"When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed." MIST is an opportunity for anyone to showcase their talents, or to discover new ones, in a safe and welcoming environment.
"I am even more awkward in person." For me, MIST evoked a sense of belonging. It was the final push of courage I needed to put my hijab on for the first time.
MIST provides young adults with the opportunity to get involved within their community, unifying strong minded individuals from across the country.
The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.
MIST taught me that it's okay to be the unusual, jumbled-up soul that I am; the girl in the corner that's always reading or writing, who likes wearing big ugly stuff, who dislikes selfies and dressing up and shopping.
MIST embodies a unique sense of compassion, spirit, energy and atmosphere. The utter thrill of competing alongside enthusiastic like-minded individuals who harbor true talent and skill can never be matched quite like MIST has.
MIST to me is a means to stay connected to my Muslim roots, and a way to give back to the community. It has proven to be a healthy platform to learn from each other in a constructive environment.
So Excited for my first time doing MIST as a dream team member!
I originally joined MIST as a competitor but I stuck around for the positive atmosphere and amazing people!
MIST has been a platform for me to showcase my skills and boost my confidence, as well as help me give back to the community.
"But no living man am I!" As a Muslim Egyptian-Canadian with a strong interest in intersectional feminism, human rights, and secular social justice, I often feel that I don't entirely belong in my Muslim and cultural circles. MIST is special because it fosters that sense of belonging that so many of us lack and need as young Muslim Canadians.
"When life trips you down 7 times, don't get back up the 8th time, just go to sleep." MIST creates this atmosphere; this atmosphere of unity, love, and warmth and that is what we all need to dwell in to succeed as a whole.
I love MIST because it gives students the chance to come together as a community and show their talents. I want to be able to give them an amazing experience to take away

I joined MIST last year spontaneously and, Alhumdulillah, I enjoyed every minute of it. Now, I hope to make this coming MIST as memorable of an experience for others as it was for me.
